The House and Grounds

Velindre House is a uniquely lovely eighteenth-century country villa designed by the preeminent Georgian architect John Nash, the architect of Buckingham Palace and Brighton Pavilion. Its three grand reception rooms have a rich sense of history, calm and space but are also supremely comfortable. The communal areas are enhanced by huge sofas, antique furniture, traditional Welsh and Moroccan textiles, eclectic art, and are warmed by a log burner and a classic Aga.

Turn into the long, hidden driveway from the quaint village high street where you’ll find a bus stop, health food shop, mini supermarket, and a superb village pub, and you are transported to a wonderfully secluded, deep-green world.

The lush and private five acres of encircling grounds are bordered by two swimmable rivers. Though carefully curated in parts, they are otherwise kept deliberately wild, providing a haven for the rare flora and fauna that abound in this unspoilt corner of West Wales. Our residents include otters, herons, songbirds, owls, waterfowl, foxes, bats, badgers, and stoats. The forested backdrop, rising above the lake, is home to hawks, incredible fungi, butterflies, bees, and wild fruit trees. The flower and kitchen gardens are organically planted and managed, offering the finest blooms and produce for our events.

We can host up to eighteen guests in the winter and twenty-eight in the summer. Several unique, hand-built structures are dotted around the grounds, each with real beds, power, lighting, and their own fire pits, accompanied by two outdoor bathrooms.

Our Food Philosophy
Good food is central to our mission. Whether simple or elaborate, we believe communal cooking and the sharing of meals is crucial to the success of any gathering. Our sister company, The Barefoot Gourmet, creates celebratory seasonal feasts of two to five courses, using organic, locally sourced produce alongside specially selected ingredients from around the world. Much of our food is grown here at Velindre House, and we work closely with sustainable local suppliers. With a one-hundred-percent record of five-star reviews for both our cooking and our pricing, we proudly cater to all dietary requirements and tastes. Our feasts are always generous-we don’t do small.

Facilities for Cooking & Dining
Velindre House has two kitchens: one large, and a smaller one exclusively for guests. Facilities include two ovens, induction hobs, four fire pits, two large barbecues, huge pots and pans, and a full range of tableware. We provide both indoor and outdoor dining equipment for up to thirty-six people, everyday glassware, specialist cocktail supplies, an outdoor bar, and a catering tent.

What Our Guests Say

Learn what makes Velindre House so special, in our guests' own words.

Truly special.

We were absolutely blown away by how beautiful the house and grounds are. We had such a lovely day in the sauna with occasional breaks to dip in the stream and have a little paddle in the canoes. The house has so many bedrooms and social space. As a large party of 16, we had plenty of room for meals, social hangs, and dancing. The hosts are really lovely and welcoming - thank you so much xxxx

Perfect for special gatherings.

I stayed with 13 others at Sarah’s house for a hen weekend. The house and garden were incredible! Sarah was a fantastic host - very friendly, responsive, and keen for us to have a great time. We also enjoyed her catering one evening which was delicious. Ceredigion is a beautiful part of the world, and none of us wanted to leave. I hope to visit again one day. Thank you so much Sarah.

Exquisite and unforgettable.

We had the most wholesome and fun trip away at Sarah’s place. From even before arrival, she made sure our stay was perfect - and she delivered! There were 17 of us, and the house still felt spacious. We opted for a banquet on New Year’s Eve provided by Sarah, which was superb. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough - 10/10.

A magical family escape.

We had an amazing stay at Sarah’s home for a family get-together to celebrate my husband’s 80th birthday. The venue is a wonderfully unique place for a multi-generational gathering. You can relax in the beautiful garden, take a sauna, or row on the lake. Sarah’s gourmet meal was absolutely delicious and she made us feel so at home. We’ve made lovely memories that will last forever.

Beyond expectations.

We chose Sarah’s beautiful home for our friend’s hen do, and we’re so glad we did! The house is stunning, full of charm, and the garden is amazing. Sarah greeted us with cocktails and even baked a delicious cake. The feast she and Fiona cooked was incredible - homemade gluten-free naan included! We all agreed we’d love to come back again in the summer.

Unforgettable weekend.

Wow! What an incredible Airbnb. Sarah made us feel truly welcome from the second we arrived. Thirteen of us stayed here for a hen do and had the most magical time. A perfect setup for family and friend gatherings - the food was the highlight of the whole trip. Highly recommend. Thank you Sarah x

An exquisite location of deep green nature.

An exquisite location of deep green nature - a pond to swim in to freshen the soul, rustic outbuildings, and a darkly wooded, historic, homely house, all of which you could walk around for days and still notice something previously unseen. My daughter’s wedding here was more than special; every detail was perfect and the host went above and beyond.
